The rumors and speculation are over and Facebook Places has launched.  What is a little bit of a surprise is that Bing Maps is behind the location part of the location-based services on the Web-based version.  Good to see courtesy the latest post by Chris Pendleton.  Uncle Walt Mossberg’s take can be found here.

Tip: Check your privacy settings for Facebook Places here (via Dotrights.org).

If only for the time you’ll save tagging pictures in your photo library, Windows Live Essentials is a welcome update.  Even my wife has started using Windows Movie Maker for clips of the kids.
